"Tower" Moments and Why They Matter to You

I've been saying for several weeks that I want to write about what I call "Tower" moments, but it never felt like the time was right -- until now.

The Tower Card in Tarot. It means transformation and chaos but I promise..its a Gift!

Life is filled with pivotal moments that shake us to our core, it challenges the foundations we’ve built and forces us to confront uncomfortable truths. In the world of tarot, these moments are beautifully embodied by The Tower card— the tower is a symbol of sudden upheaval, unexpected change, and the clearing of what no longer serves us. These “tower moments,” as I like to call them, are intense but necessary phases of transformation.

The Symbolism of The Tower Card

The Tower is one of the most "slap you in the face" cards in the tarot deck. Traditionally, it depicts a tall structure being struck by lightning, with flames bursting out and figures falling from its heights. The visual chaos can feel jarring, much like the moments it represents. Key elements of the card include:

  • The Tower Itself: Represents false structures or beliefs that we’ve clung to for stability.
  • Lightning: Symbolizes divine intervention, sudden insight, or an external force shaking things up.
  • The Falling Figures: Suggest that clinging to these old patterns is no longer viable; we must let go and trust the process.
  • Fire and Destruction: Indicate purification and the clearing of stagnant energy.

The Meaning of The Tower in a Tarot Reading

When The Tower appears in a reading, it’s often a signal that major change is on the horizon. While it can feel like chaos or destruction, its true purpose is to clear away illusions, forcing you to rebuild on a firmer, more authentic foundation.

The Tower challenges you to ask:

  • What false beliefs or structures in my life are no longer serving me?
  • What am I attached to that I need to let go of? This could be a person, habit, belief, etc.
  • Am I resisting inevitable change out of fear of the unknown?
  • How can I surrender to this process and embrace growth?

Personal Reflections on “Tower Moments”

I’ve experienced my fair share of Tower moments. They were times when my life felt like it was crumbling, leaving me standing in the rubble of what I once thought was secure. These moments were painful—heartbreak, loss, career shifts, life phase transitions —but they were also the catalysts for profound growth. Let's focus on those words once more....

"...they were also the catalysts for profound growth."

One of my most significant Tower moments happened when I moved back to the United States after living in Japan for almost 10 years. If you haven't read about that, you can find it here if you're curious. At the time, it felt like the universe, God, source and all divine power had abandoned me. Looking back, I realize it was actually the universe’s way of clearing space for something greater. Those moments forced me to rebuild not only my life but also my sense of self (self-love, self-worth, self-reliance). Not only that and most importantly, that specific Tower moment connected me directly to source and higher realms.

If you find yourself in the midst of a Tower moment, these may help you navigate such a transformative time:

  1. Surrender to the Process: Resisting change only prolongs the discomfort. Accept that this moment is happening for a reason.
  2. Release What No Longer Serves You: Identify what’s being cleared away—old patterns, toxic relationships, limiting beliefs—and let them go with grace.
  3. Ground Yourself: Practices like meditation, journaling, breathwork, sitting in silence and listening with your heart.
  4. Seek Support: Reach out to trusted friends, family or mentors, for perspective and encouragement as they will see your path from a different lens.
  5. Trust the Rebuilding Process: Remember, the Tower clears the way for something better. Have faith in the journey. The greatest moves for us happen in the unseen.

The Tower as a Catalyst for Spiritual Awakening

The Tower often coincides with spiritual awakenings, as it totally dismantles illusions and ego-based attachments. After the storm, you’re left with clarity and truth, which can pave the way for deeper spiritual connection and TRUE alignment with your higher self.

Final Thoughts

While The Tower card (or Tower Moments) may feel daunting, they are reminders that even the most challenging times hold the seeds of renewal and growth. The destruction it brings is NOT the end by any means—it’s actually the beginning of something new, something more aligned with your soul’s purpose.
